Author Curt Sampson pays tribute to the Dallas Cowboys franchise as it celebrates its 50th anniversary by highlighting the life and career of Don Meredith. Sampson received exclusive interview access with Meredith, and the result is a moving, enlightening profile on America’s Team and its first player.
Meredith was—both literally and figuratively–the first Cowboy, and he played like it. His retirement in ’68 came as a shock, even though his riffs with Landry were no secret. From there he went on to star as a broadcaster on Monday Night Football and small acting and commercial roles.
