It was the peak of the rut in early November, 2010 in the area around Albany, Ohio. Three large bucks engaged in a life or death battle to win the rights of mating, probably with a prime female ready to receive the winner. During the barbarous encounter, they ventured into a creek, locked horns, and possibly slipped into the water, unable to get back up. They were found drowned in the creek, horns entwined, an ugly death, probably after many futile attempts to disengage. I found this on 3deer.theburkes.org.
