ABOUT AXIS DEER – TEXAS AND ELSEWHERE

May 20, 2011

Axis deer can be found in and around the Texas hill country in great numbers.  I have personal knowledge as I hunt the hill country and there are plenty Axis roaming around in free range.  There are several places that keep them inside high fences and sell canned hunts for these and other animals.  I have heard that some of these hunts will net the owners a pretty penny.  We hunt open range and have bagged a few in the past several years.  There are also other species found running free in our area, such as black buck and some of the others that have escaped captivity.  Please click on each of the articles below to read about the Axis deer.  The first link is titled “Formal Paper about Axis Deer” and it was compiled by Comanche Spring Ranch, Eden, Texas.  The second link is from The mammals of Texas, online edition, simply titled “Texas Deer”.  Enjoy:
