Here is a very good youtube video explaining how to build a deer blind. This explanation is very simple and shows what kind of wood is needed. I’ve helped build many of these stands and this is more or less how we built them. We’ve always used 4×4 landscape timbers for the legs, if you need them. Be sure and use something like 1×4’s across to prevent the legs from buckling. We usually nail one each all across each bottom, leg to leg. We then make a cross from top to bottom of each leg to solidify the stand. If possible, we like to spread the legs so the it stands solid enough to where it doesn’t tip over so easy. The most important thing is to make sure and tie the four corners to stakes or something else or next time you visit your deer camp, the blind will be on the ground from high winds or cows and most of the time badly damaged. I speak from experience.
