PEYTON MANNING RELEASED BY INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

March 07, 2012

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has just experienced the feeling of being unemployed, at least temporarily.  Manning was released by the Indianapolis Colts this morning.  From a fan’s perspective, I have mixed feelings.  First, I think that the Colts’ 2011 season proved that they were nothing without Manning.  Second, maybe I understand why he was released.  He is or is going to be 36 years old and has a history of neck and right arm injuries.  Why take a chance on signing him and losing him in the first few games?  I think this is a calculated risk by the Colts, knowing that they would probably win a bunch of games with him verses Manning getting hurt and ruining the season and they being out millions of bucks.  And don’t forget, because of the miserable season that the Colts had without Manning, now they have the first draft choice and are expected to take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.  Whomever takes a chance on Manning will do just that, take a chance.  Will he last a complete season?  Is it worth taking a chance on him and using many millions of dollars to get him?  That’s a tough decision.  If a team does take him and lose him before the season is over, well, egg on their face, plus millions lost.  Talking about taking a chance.  What if Andrew Luck is a bust?  What if?????   I’m sure that folks a lot smarter than me are considering all the options.  What do you all think?  Please click on the following two indystar.com links to read about Manning’s release and some info on Andrew luck:
