Corpus Christi, Texas – 5A baseball State champs Corpus Christi Carroll High School picked up additional accolades from the Texas Sports Writers Association. Senior pitcher Mark Blackmar was named Class 5A player of the year and first team All-State. In addition, Coach Lee Yeager was named Class 5A Coach of the year. Blackmar was 15-1 for the year with a 0.80 ERA. His batting average was .478 as he belted 7 homers and had 50 RBI. Not far behind and named to the second team All-State was sophomore outfielder Courtney Hawkins. The MVP of the State championship game, Hawkins batted .383 and had 6 homers and 36 RBI. He was also named Honorable-Mention as a pitcher, going 9-1 with a 2.31 ERA. Adam Hinojosa, the Tigers second baseman was named third team All-State. Hinojosa carried a .432 batting average and 37 RBI. He hit 13 doubles during the season. Two other Carroll Tigers were named Honorable-Mention All-State. They were sophomores O’Shea Dumes and Josh Cruz. Dumes hit .380 with 6 homers and 36 RBI. Cruz’ batting average was .385 and he had 9 doubles and 39 RBI. Corpus Christi King junior outfielder Khrystian Camacho was also named All-State Honorable-Mention.
