Two local Corpus Christi, Texas outstanding high school athletes were selected to the United States Specialty Sports Association High School Varsity National Team to compete in the 30th anniversary of the Prague Baseball Week in the Czech Republic.  They are Trey Rodriguez, short stop and 2nd baseman for the 5-A Texas High School State semi-finalist Carroll Tigers and Wyatt Mathisen, catcher, pitcher and all-around player for the 4-A Texas State semi- finalist Callallen Wildcats. They are going to be seniors next year for their respective schools and have played for a Roland Baseball Academy team since they were approximately 10 years old.   In 2010 they traveled to Kissimmee, Florida to play in the USSSA All-American games for the RBA SeaHawks.  Both were selected to the USSSA 16u first team. Each was invited to go back to try out for the USSSA High School National Team that was scheduled to play in Prague in 2011. They accepted the invitation, tried out, both making the National team.  The time is here and the pair left Corpus Christi for San Antonio on Thursday, June 16, flew to New York City that evening and spent the night there . The next day they were New York tourist and did a little sight seeing. Among the memorable sights they toured was yankee Stadium. Later that evening they flew out of New York, arriving in the Czech Republic sometime Saturday.  Wyatt Mathisen’s parents, Jaime and Leah Mathisen,  are accompanying the two youths throughout the trip.  It just happens that Trey is my nephew and we are all really proud of him.  Congratulations to his parents, Frank and Nora Rodriguez.  Please click on each of the two amateurbaseballreport.com links below to read all the details:
