Corpus Christi, Texas – Three Calallen High School baseball players were picked on the first team All-State squad by the Texas Sports Writers Association. The three were senior pitcher Rob Zastryzny, junior second baseman Brett Bell and sophomore shortstop Wyatt Mathisen. Corpus Christi Moody High School’s Michael Franco made the second team as a pitcher. Another Corpus Christi Calallen player, junior designated hitter Tanner Vandevere was also named to the second team. Zastryzny went 16-1 with a 0.40 ERA. Bell’s batting average was .444. Mathisen hit .462. Vandevere hit a record 14 home runs this season. Moody’s Franco was a perfect 15-0 on the mound. Ten area players were Honorable-Mention and are listed below:
