HANTAVIRUS DANGER – ATTENTION DEER HUNTERS 2012

September 14, 2012

Well, it’s that time again when we deer hunters start getting frisky and thinking about going to the deer lease and getting prepared for the upcoming deer season.   WARNING!  As most of us know, if we have a shed, cabin or trailer at the hunting camp, more than likely it has been invaded by mice or rats.  The tale tale signs are rodent droppings all over the floor and counters, shelves, etc.  A deadly disease known as hantavirus,  known to be carried by rodents, mainly mice and rats has been appearing more frequently in the U.S.   It can be transmitted to humans from their urine and feces.  A scary part is that it can be inhaled through dust that has accumulated on top of urine or feces for a long time.  We also know that these pests will also get into our deer blinds, etc.  It seems that even though we try to insulate our living quarters as best as possible, the damn things still find a way to get in.  I’m just letting us know to keep from touching areas where droppings and urine have been.  I suggest having latex gloves available to do the cleaning and using a strong disinfectant to clean the area where you sleep and possibly cook in.  I’m certainly not an expert on this subject and I am just passing this information through links that I have found on the internet as a public service to my readers.  The last link by ehow.com has good information on prevention.  Please click on the links below to read more. cbsnews.com; earthobservatory.nasa.gov; newsdiscovery.com;reuters.com and lastly ehow.com:
