Yoakum High School girls golf team took first place in the two day Class 3A Region IV golf tournament at the Oso Beach Golf course in Corpus Christi, Texas with a total team score of 701. Sealy came in second at 756 and Fredericksburg was third at 783. Yoakum and Sealy will advance to state. Olivia Esparza of Yoakum shot an impressive 162 (82-80) to lead all players. Shelby Smith of Bellville scored a close 165 (86-79). Third place was a tie between Lucy Rivera of Bandera, 171 (90-81) and Jordan Jarreau of Fredericksburg, 171 (83-88). Rivera broke the tie and won after a one hole playoff with Jarreau. Shelby Smith and Lucy Rivera will advance to state as individual medalists.
